LED Downlight Installation in Perth's Northern Suburbs
JEC installs LED downlights in homes across Joondalup and Perth's northern suburbs: swapping out old halogens, planning new lighting layouts room by room, and fitting ceiling fans while the ladder's out. One fixed price from Glen before any work starts.
The problem
Old Halogens Cost You Twice
Plenty of northern-suburbs homes still run the halogen downlights they were built with. They chew through power compared with LED, they run hot enough to matter in a roof cavity, and the bulbs and transformers fail one by one, so there's always a dead light somewhere in the house.
Swapping to LED fixes all three at once. LED downlights draw far less power than halogens, run much cooler, and last for years rather than months. Once the old transformers are gone, the "one light's always out" cycle stops too.
This is licensed electrical work, not a bulb change: the old fittings and transformers come out and new LED fittings are wired in. Glen quotes the whole house (or just the rooms you want done) as one fixed price, so you know the full cost before the first fitting comes down.
What we do
LED & Home Lighting Across Perth's Northern Suburbs
JEC handles residential lighting from a single replacement fitting to a whole-home LED changeover, across Joondalup, Currambine, Wanneroo, Clarkson and surrounding suburbs.
-
Halogen-to-LED downlight replacement: old fittings and transformers removed, modern LED downlights wired in.
-
New downlight installation: cutting in and wiring new points where a room needs more, or better-placed, light.
-
Lighting layout design: Glen plans positions room by room on-site, so kitchens get task light where you prep and living rooms aren't lit like an office.
-
Dimmers and switching: LED-compatible dimmers, two-way switching, separate zones for living areas.
-
Feature and pendant lighting: supply-and-install or fit-off of fittings you've bought.
-
Outdoor and security lighting: weatherproof-rated fittings and sensor lights for entries, patios and driveways.
-
Ceiling fans: new fan installation or replacement of old fans, with or without lights.
-
Smoke alarm check while we're in the roof: see Smoke Alarms if yours are due.

Why JEC
Why Have JEC Do Your Lighting
A layout, not just holes in the ceiling
After 25+ years, Glen has seen every downlight mistake: glare over the TV, shadows on the benchtop, sixteen lights where eight would do. He plans positions with you before anything gets cut.
One fixed price for the whole job
Whether it's three downlights or the whole house plus two ceiling fans, you get a single written price up front. No hourly rate running while someone hunts for cables.
Tidy work in finished homes
Downlight work happens in your ceilings and living spaces. Drop sheets go down, holes are cut cleanly, and the old halogen fittings leave with Glen.
Whole-house jobs
Replacing Every Downlight in the House
A lot of Joondalup and Wanneroo homes went up in the late 1990s and 2000s, when the fashion was banks of 50-watt halogen downlights in every room. Plenty of those ceilings still have thirty or forty of them.
They run hot, they need their clearance kept free of insulation, and the old transformers are usually still sitting up there in the roof space. Replacing them one at a time as they fail means paying a call-out over and over for the same job.
Doing the whole house in one visit is the sensible way round it. The old fittings and their transformers come out, the new LEDs go in, and the ceiling gets left tidy. You get one fixed price for the lot, agreed before anything starts, rather than a per-light rate that creeps.

One fixed price
You get a written fixed price for the full scope: fittings, wiring, dimmers, fans, clean-up. Nothing starts until you've agreed to it.

Installation day
Most whole-home LED changeovers are done in a day. You finish with every light working, switches labelled where useful, and the mess gone.
LED & Lighting Questions, Answered
Can you replace halogen downlights with LED?
Yes. This is the most common lighting job JEC does. The old halogen fittings and their transformers are removed and replaced with modern LED downlights. It's licensed electrical work in WA because the fittings are wired in, but it's straightforward, and most homes are done in a single visit.
Will LED downlights lower my power bill?
LED downlights draw much less power than the halogens they replace, so a home full of halogens will use noticeably less lighting energy after a changeover. How much that's worth on your bill depends on how many lights you run and for how long. Glen won't quote you an invented savings figure, but the direction is only one way.
How many downlights does a room need?
It depends on the room's size, ceiling height and what happens in it: a kitchen needs stronger, well-placed task lighting, while a bedroom needs fewer, softer points. Glen plans the layout with you on-site rather than applying a one-size grid, which usually means fewer fittings placed better.
Can you install ceiling fans as well?
Yes. JEC installs new ceiling fans and replaces old ones across Perth's northern suburbs, with or without built-in lights. Doing fans and downlights in the same visit is common: it's one fixed price for the combined job and one lot of ceiling access.
Do I need an electrician to change a downlight in WA?
Changing a bulb in an existing fitting is fine to do yourself. Anything involving the wiring, such as replacing the fitting, removing halogen transformers, adding new points or installing a fan, is electrical work that must be done by a licensed electrician in WA. JEC is licensed EC9674, and every job is done to standard.
