Business-hours emergency service only

JEC responds to urgent electrical faults Monday to Friday, 7am–5pm.

Quick triage

Is This an Emergency?

Call during business hours if you have:

  • Complete loss of power to your home
  • Sparking, burning smell, or smoke from a power point, switch, or the switchboard
  • A safety switch (RCD) that trips repeatedly and won't reset
  • Exposed or damaged wiring
  • A downed power line on or near your property (also call Western Power on 13 13 51)
  • Burning or hot switchboard, meter box, or power point

These usually aren't an emergency (but still worth a call):

  • A single power point not working
  • Flickering lights in one room
  • Planning a switchboard upgrade or new circuit

Planning ahead instead? See our Switchboard Upgrades page for the non-urgent fix.

During business hours, call if you're not sure which one you've got. Glen will tell you straight whether it needs an urgent visit or can wait for a normal booking.

Reading This Outside Business Hours?

Glen is a local sparky, not a 24-hour call centre, so there's no point pretending otherwise. Here's what actually helps tonight.

Immediate danger? Call 000

Fire, smoke, someone hurt, or sparking you can't shut off at the main switch. Don't wait for an electrician: call 000.

Street dark or a line down? Western Power

Network faults aren't house wiring, and Western Power runs around the clock on 13 13 51. Stay well back from any fallen line.

Can it wait for morning? Send it now

Power off to one circuit, a dead room, an RCD you've left off. Send Glen the details and he picks it up first thing on the next business day.

Make it safe, then leave it

If you can safely reach the switchboard, switch off the affected circuit (or the main switch) and leave it off until a licensed electrician has looked at it. Don't keep resetting a safety switch that won't hold.

While you wait

What to Do Before Glen Arrives

Sparking, smoke or burning smell

Switch off at the main switch on your switchboard if it's safe to reach. During business hours, call Glen. If there is an immediate danger or fire, call 000.

Safety switch tripped and won't reset

Leave it off. Don't keep flipping it back on: that's it doing its job.

Downed power line

Stay well back, keep others (and pets) away, and call Western Power on 13 13 51 as well as us.

Water near power

If water is anywhere near powered outlets, switches, or the switchboard, stay clear and switch off power at the mains if you can do so safely.

Leave it to the licence

Never touch a switchboard, wiring, or exposed cabling yourself. Leave it for a licensed electrician.

Quick answers

Emergency Electrician: Quick Answers

How fast can you get to me?

During business hours, Glen will give you a realistic arrival time when you call. JEC is based in Joondalup and covers the northern suburbs, but does not promise a fixed response time.

Is there a call-out fee?

Yes. The call-out is $180 + GST and includes the first 30 minutes on site. If the job needs more than that, Glen tells you what it will cost before he starts, so the price is agreed rather than discovered on the invoice.

Are you available after hours?

No. JEC's emergency electrical service operates during business hours only: Monday to Friday, 7am–5pm. If there is an immediate danger or fire outside those hours, call 000. For a network outage or damaged power line, call Western Power on 13 13 51. If it can safely wait, send Glen the details through the contact form and he picks it up first thing on the next business day.

What if it's a power outage across my whole street, not just my house?

That's usually a network issue, not a house wiring fault. Check Western Power's outage map or call 13 13 51 first. If you're not sure whether it's just your property, call us and we'll help you work it out.
