Electrician in Carine, Street by Street, Not Suburb-Wide
Carine took more than a decade to finish, so the board in your house depends on which stage it was built in. JEC tests first, then quotes one fixed price for the agreed work.
A Suburb That Took Thirteen Years to Finish
Carine takes its name from the Big and Small Carine Swamps, recorded in a survey back in 1865. For most of the century that followed it was part of the Hamersley Estate: market gardens and farms around the low ground, timber reserve elsewhere, and very little housing. Carine Senior High School opened in 1973, the residential build began in earnest from 1975, and the last two stages, west of Osmaston Road and the Lake Carine Gardens estate, were not completed until 1987.
Thirteen years is a long time in wiring practice. The earliest Carine houses were built before safety switches were part of a normal installation, while the last ones were built when standards, circuit counts and appliance loads had all moved on. That is why a suburb-wide answer is worthless here. Two Carine houses a few streets apart can need completely different work.
What the whole suburb does share is space. Carine is low-density with generous blocks and a large stretch of open space and bushland around the swamps, so outdoor circuits, pool and bore equipment and garden lighting sit a long way from the meter box. Neighbouring Duncraig was built faster and more uniformly, which makes it a useful contrast.
Know Which Carine You Live In
When you get in touch, tell us roughly when the house was built and whether the board has ever been changed. It is the single most useful thing you can say, and it lets Glen arrive knowing whether he is likely to be looking at an original 1970s board or a later one that has simply run out of room.
Common Jobs in Carine Homes
Switchboard upgrades
Early-1970s boards on the south side of the suburb, and late-1980s boards that are compliant but full.
Learn more →RCD and safety switches
Having a couple of safety switches is not the same as having every circuit protected. We test which is which.
Learn more →House rewiring
Circuit-by-circuit testing first, so original cabling gets replaced where it needs to be and left where it does not.
Learn more →EV charger installation
Dedicated charging circuits on big Carine blocks, quoted with the board capacity check included.
Learn more →We also handle power points, LED and garden lighting, smoke alarms, bore pump electrical, fault finding and split-system air conditioning across Carine.

Glen tests the switchboard, confirms which circuits actually have RCD protection and how much spare capacity is left, then explains it plainly. A fixed price follows only if work is needed.

Carine Electrical Questions
Carine was built over about fifteen years. Does that change what our house needs?
It changes the starting assumption completely. The part of the suburb south of what is now Reid Highway went up in the early 1970s, while the last stages near Osmaston Road and the Lake Carine Gardens estate were not finished until 1987. A house from 1974 and a house from 1986 are different electrical propositions, so Glen tests what is actually installed rather than working from the suburb name.
Our board already has a couple of safety switches. Is that enough?
Not necessarily, and this is one of the most common misunderstandings. Partial RCD protection is very normal on Carine-era boards, because safety switches were often retrofitted onto some circuits and not others. WA requires a minimum of two RCDs before a home is sold or leased, and beyond that what matters is which circuits are actually covered. A test at the board answers it in minutes.
The blocks here are large and the trees are mature. Does that affect anything?
It affects outdoor work more than most people expect. Carine keeps a lot of open space and established vegetation, and long garden runs, pool and spa equipment, bore pumps, shed circuits and garden lighting all sit further from the board than in a modern build. That means cable runs need to be sized properly, and outdoor points need to be protected and specified for where they actually are.
