Electrician in Padbury, Big Blocks, Old Boards
Padbury blocks are generous and the houses on them are modest and original. Most of the electrical work here is about what got added out the back. JEC quotes one fixed price for the lot.
The Suburb Where the Work Is Usually Out the Back
Padbury was named in 1971, after the settler Walter Padbury, and built out through the decade that followed. Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park opened in 1978 on Whitfords Avenue, and the Hepburn Heights bushland still holds the south-eastern corner of the suburb, which is why parts of Padbury feel greener and more spread out than the streets around them.
The houses of that era were modest and the blocks were not. Fifty years on, that combination defines the electrical work here. The original house has usually stayed roughly the same size while the block has filled up: a shed or workshop, a patio or alfresco, a pool or spa, a garden bore, sometimes a granny flat. Every one of those needs a way in the switchboard and enough capacity behind it, and the board is still the one the builder fitted.
The other thing about a big block is distance. A circuit that runs thirty metres to the back shed is a different job from one that runs to the kitchen, and it needs to be sized and protected accordingly. Neighbouring Duncraig shares the build era but tends to add upwards and inwards rather than outwards.
Planning a Shed, Patio or Granny Flat?
Get the board looked at before the slab goes down. If it has no spare ways or no RCD protection, that work has to happen anyway, and it is far cheaper to plan it into the job than to discover it once the structure is up and the trades are booked.

Padbury Electrical Questions
Padbury blocks are big. Can the existing switchboard handle a shed or patio circuit?
Sometimes, and this is exactly the check worth doing before you build. A 1970s board typically has few ways and no RCD protection, and a shed or workshop at the back of the block needs its own protected sub-circuit rather than an extension lead habit. Glen looks at the board, the run and the intended load together, then quotes the whole thing as one fixed price.
Our Padbury home is original. Do we rewire, or just do the board?
Testing decides it, and the answer is often somewhere in between. Original cabling can still be sound on some circuits and past its useful life on others, particularly where the kitchen, laundry or an added room has been altered over the decades. Glen tests circuit by circuit and quotes only the ones that genuinely need work, rather than defaulting to a whole-house rewire.
The garden bore keeps cutting out. Is that electrical or mechanical?
It is electrical about as often as it is mechanical, which is why it is worth having checked properly before a pump is replaced. Faulty controllers, degraded underground cabling, moisture in the isolator and RCD tripping all present the same way from the outside. Fault finding tells you which it is before anyone spends money on a pump.
