Our Promise

10-Year Workmanship Guarantee

If a problem is caused by our workmanship, we will put that workmanship right. These terms explain the promise clearly without limiting your rights under Australian Consumer Law.

This guarantee is provided by JOONDALUP ELECTRICAL CONTRACTING, ABN 64 669 721 046, electrical contractor licence EC9674 · EW144799. It applies to eligible work completed by JEC from the date shown on the relevant invoice or completion document.

In plain English

Our 10-year promise covers the quality of JEC's installation workmanship. Product and part failures remain covered by the rights and warranties that apply to those products. Your automatic rights under Australian Consumer Law always continue in addition to this guarantee.

1. How long the guarantee runs

The guarantee runs for 10 years from the date shown on the relevant JEC invoice or completion document. It applies for as long as the particular JEC installation remains in service at the original service address within that period, and has not been materially altered, relocated or repaired by someone other than JEC. The guarantee is available to the customer named on the invoice and to a later owner or occupier who can provide the JEC invoice or enough information for us to verify the work.

2. What the guarantee covers

The guarantee covers a defect caused by JEC failing to carry out the documented installation or repair work with acceptable care and skill. If a claim is covered, JEC will inspect the issue and re-perform or rectify the affected JEC workmanship within a reasonable time, without charging for the reasonable labour and materials needed to correct that workmanship.

3. Parts, equipment and customer-supplied items

  • Parts and equipment supplied by JEC are also subject to the consumer guarantees and any applicable manufacturer or supplier warranty. Product warranties typically run between 1 and 6 years depending on the item, and are set by the manufacturer rather than by JEC.
  • This workmanship guarantee does not make JEC the manufacturer of a part or cover a product failure that was not caused by JEC's workmanship.
  • For an item supplied by the customer, JEC guarantees its installation workmanship where JEC agreed the item was suitable, but does not provide an additional product warranty for the item itself.
  • JEC may decline to install a customer-supplied item that appears unsafe, unsuitable, incompatible or non-compliant.

4. Design, capacity and location choices

The guarantee does not cover dissatisfaction caused solely by a design, capacity, finish or location specifically selected by the customer or a third-party designer against JEC's written recommendation, provided JEC's work remains safe, compliant and fit for every purpose disclosed to us. JEC cannot use this exclusion to avoid responsibility for its own advice, an unsafe or non-compliant installation, or work that was not completed with due care and skill.

5. What is not a workmanship defect

To the extent permitted by law, the additional 10-year guarantee does not cover a problem caused by:

  • normal wear, consumables or expected maintenance;
  • a manufacturing defect, product recall or failure of equipment not caused by JEC's workmanship;
  • misuse, overloading, accidental impact, pests, water ingress, corrosion, fire, storm, flood, power surge or a network-supply fault;
  • building movement, structural defects, pre-existing wiring or concealed site conditions outside JEC's quoted scope;
  • work, alteration, relocation or repair by another person after JEC completed the job; or
  • a failure to follow reasonable operating, safety or maintenance instructions supplied with the work or equipment.

These exclusions apply only to this additional guarantee. They do not exclude any right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded.

6. How to make a claim

  1. Stop using the affected item if continuing to use it may be unsafe.
  2. Contact JEC on 0438 678 218 or glen@joondalupelectrical.com.
  3. Provide the service address, invoice or job details where available, a description of the issue and any useful photos.
  4. Give JEC reasonable access to inspect and, if covered, rectify the work.

There is no fee to lodge a claim. JEC pays the reasonable inspection and rectification costs for an approved claim. If inspection shows the issue is outside this guarantee, JEC will explain why and will disclose any proposed charge before carrying out non-covered work. In an immediate safety emergency, arrange the help needed to make the site safe and keep records of the issue and work performed.

7. Australian Consumer Law

This 10-year workmanship guarantee provides benefits in addition to the rights and remedies available under the Australian Consumer Law. It does not exclude, restrict or modify those rights.

Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For major failures with the service, you are entitled:

  • to cancel your service contract with us; and
  • to a refund for the unused portion, or to compensation for its reduced value.

You are also entitled to choose a refund or replacement for major failures with goods.

If a failure with the goods or a service does not amount to a major failure, you are entitled to have the failure rectified in a reasonable time. If this is not done you are entitled to a refund for the goods and to cancel the contract for the service and obtain a refund of any unused portion.

You are also entitled to be compensated for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage from a failure in the goods or service.

Consumer information is available from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
