Electrician in Karrinyup, Plan the Wiring With the Reno
Karrinyup's 1960s and 70s homes are being renovated street by street, and the original wiring rarely matches the new plans. JEC checks the board and circuits first, then quotes one fixed price for the agreed electrical scope.
A 1960s Suburb Being Rebuilt Around Its Wiring
Most of Karrinyup went up in the 1960s and 70s, and the suburb is now deep in its second life: renovations, extensions and knock-down rebuilds, helped along by the redeveloped Karrinyup shopping precinct lifting interest in the area. Two houses on the same street can now be fifty years apart electrically.
The original homes were wired for a very different household: fewer appliances, no air conditioning in every room, and switchboards that often predate RCD safety switches entirely. A renovation is the right moment to deal with that, because walls are open, plans are still flexible, and the cost of doing it properly is at its lowest.
Start the Electrical Scope at the Board
Before finishes are chosen, have the switchboard, circuit capacity and any original cabling assessed. That tells you whether the renovation needs two new circuits or a rewire of the affected rooms, and it turns the electrical line in your budget into a fixed number instead of a guess.
The same job comes up either side of the suburb boundary. Carine was built over a longer stretch of years, so the board age varies street by street, and Gwelup has original blocks and rebuilds sitting next to each other. If your house is closer to one of those, start there instead.

Karrinyup Electrical Questions
We are renovating a 1960s Karrinyup home. Does it automatically need rewiring?
Not automatically. Some original cabling tests fine; some has brittle insulation or has been altered too many times over the decades. Testing at the switchboard and in the roof space settles it, and the answer often differs between circuits in the same house. Glen quotes only the circuits that genuinely need work.
Should the switchboard be sorted before or during the renovation?
Before the layout is final, ideally. A renovation usually adds circuits for appliances, air conditioning or an extension, and a 1960s or 70s board may have no room or no RCD protection for them. Confirming the board first means the builder and cabinetmaker are not waiting on electrical surprises later.
Does JEC really travel to Karrinyup from Joondalup?
Yes, for quoted, scheduled work such as switchboard upgrades, rewiring and renovation electrical. Travel is priced into the fixed quote, so there is nothing extra on the day. Urgent same-day callouts are focused closer to the Joondalup base, and all work is during business hours, Monday to Friday 7am to 5pm.
