How much does EV charger installation cost in Joondalup?
The price depends on three things: the charger itself, the cable run from your switchboard to the charging spot, and whether your board needs upgrading first. JEC gives you one fixed price in writing after a home assessment. The number you're quoted is the number you pay.
Do I need a switchboard upgrade before installing an EV charger?
Often, yes, especially in homes built before the 1990s. An EV charger draws more sustained load than most household appliances, and older boards with ceramic fuses or no spare capacity can't carry it safely. Should I get a single-phase or three-phase charger?
Most Perth homes have single-phase power, which supports a 7 kW charger, enough to fully charge most EVs overnight. Three-phase supply allows faster 22 kW-capable charging, but upgrading your supply is rarely worth the cost for home use. Glen will confirm what your home has and give you a straight recommendation.
Can't I just charge from a normal power point?
You can, but it's slow. A standard power point trickle-charges at a rate that can take more than a full day for a big battery, and it shouldn't share a circuit with other appliances for long charging sessions. How long does the installation take?
A straightforward install, with the charger near the switchboard and no board upgrade needed, is typically finished within a day. Longer cable runs or a switchboard upgrade add time, and Glen will give you the timing along with your fixed price so you can plan around it.
